The Large Black is a breed of domestic pig that is native to Great Britain. A large swine breed, it is hardy and docile and have large litters. It's foraging ability makes it useful for extensive farming.
Popular in the early 1900's the Large Black was exported around the world. Numbers declined after World War II as farmers turned to mass producing farming, and by the 1960's the breed was almost extinct, but population is on the rise.
The Large Black is known for its lean quality and flavor without an excess of back fat.
